My Life According to Me

by Linda Bullock

I was born at a very young age on August 11, 1962, to my parents Wilbur and Marie Kooistra. I was immediately showered with unconditional love and attention and took my rightful place as the favourite. My mother always said I was the easiest to care for because I was so contented and undemanding.

Throughout my life I was as an especially gifted napper and a chronic sleeper. The word that describes me best is: Can't Follow Orders. My hobbies, besides taking photos and videos were breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was sarcastic, unreliable and easily distracte...

I had a great time growing up on the family farm. My dad was organic before it was cool and my mom grew large gardens that I didn't want to help with, but could always be counted on to eat more than my share of the bounty. My sister had a huge green thumb, but we managed to marry her off anyway. I had 3 brothers, so I was entertained with summer go-garts, winter sliding machines and lots of other projects. I followed along and swiped their dirt bikes, street bikes and pickup trucks for fun that never cost me a dime.

Later on, I followed to the highways and byways and a lot of road rushed under my wheels. I had taters and toast from coast to coast in this country and that smaller one to the south of us too. What I saw and the things I learned over the years made me fall in love with my country. I'm so proud to be Canadian! I have wondered if my sister chose the best road, following her love of growing things and staying closer to home and the farm life. Along my way I met a country boy that had moved up north to work in town. I mixed him up, messed him up, drove his bike and his pickup truck. We worked real hard, sometimes we're not sure why, but we lived in the country again before I died.

My parents have predeceased me. As I am the first of my siblings to pass, they may all now finally be free from living in my shadow. Although sadly, due to my magnificence, they never knew the full warmth of our parents affection.

Friday 13, May 2016 was the last day of my life. The jig was up and I went off to see the wizard. I'm looking forward to a rest... and an adventure!

So, play out your cards everyone and I'll catch you on the flip side. It was good to know you all... ya'll.

In keeping with Linda's wishes,

cremation has taken place at

Heritage Memorial Gardens,

Swan River, Manitoba.

Interment will take place at a later date.
