Gladys Lillian Upton on Bowsman, Manitoba passed away peacefully in the Swan Valley Lodge on Saturday 28th, 2015 at the age of 96 years.

Gladys Upton was born in Pennant, Saskatchewan on July 18th, 1918 to the lateMary and Charles Lavitzkie. She received her education in The Cabri School and The Rosetown Catholic School.

On June 11th, 1939 Gladys married John Edward “Eddie” Upton in the Catholic Church in Birch River, Manitoba. Sadly, Eddie passed away on May 17th, 1983.

During Gladys’s life she farmed in the Brierle District for six years; came to Bowsman from Cabri, Saskatchewan; worked in a bakery before she was married and lived in Bowsman for 65 years.

Gladys’s many hobbies included growing roses and gardening; playing baseball; quilting and sewing. She took an active part in the Horticultural Society, was very involved in WI CWL Bowsman; The Bowsman Holy Family Church and she loved to watch curling on TV.

Gladys is survived by: her daughter Mary Jane (Dwight) Stewart of Bowsman, Manitoba, and their children, Twilla (Peter) Chocholik (James) of Calgary, AB, James (Samantha) Stewart (Brooke and Sydney) of Whitehorse, YK; Daughter Therese Shulman of Calgary, AB, and their children Melanie Shulman of New York, USA and Grant Shulman of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law Shirley Upton of Wakaw, SK, Kelly (Julie) Upton of Saskatoon, SK, Cody and Reise Upton; sister Jennifer Falk of Saskatoon, SK; five grandchildren Kelly Upton, Twilla (Stewart) Chocholik, James Stewart, Melonie Shulman and Grant Shulman; four great-grandchildren Brooke and Sydney Stewart, Cody and Reise Upton.

Gladys was predeceased by: her son Henry G. Upton; husband John Edward (Eddie) Upton; brother Leo Lavitzkie; sister Annie Haine, Nettie Morin, Grace Swage and Mary Miller and her son-in-law Richard Shulman.

Mom loved her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evening prayers were held on Friday April 10th at 7:30 from the Chapel of Paull Funeral Home, Swan River, MB.

 A funeral service was held on April 11th, 2015 from St. Columba Roman Catholic Church in Swan River, MB with Father Roy George Vazhaplankudiyil officiating.

Active pallbearers were: Bruce Hardie, Ron Highmoor, Leo Morin, Dennis Highmoor, Terry Highmoor and Mike McIntosh.

Everyone who attended the service was to consider themselves as honorary pallbearers.

Following the funeral service, Gladys was laid to rest in the Bowsman Cemetery next to her husband Eddie.

Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Gladys’s honour may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium are honoured to have served the family.
