Doreen Anita Maycher

On September 15th, 2015 Doreen Anita Maycher passed away at the age of 85 years.

On February 16th, 1930, Doreen was born to Dessa and Joseph Fox, in Minitonas, Manitoba and along with her ten older siblings, attended Sinclair River School.

In her late teens, she met Walter Maycher and they were married on May 19th, 1948. They went on to farm in the Lenswood area and had three children; Ray, Ron and Darlene.

After selling the farm in 1975, they moved a mile outside of Swan River. Here Doreen did several occupations; worked retail, cooked, served and babysat along with maintaining the home.

For many years until her eyes would not let her, she enjoyed knitting and after coming home from coffee every night with Walter, she would delve into her word search until he would tell her to get to bed!

In 2012 Doreen’s health was too much for Walter, forcing the family to make the difficult decision to move her into the Swan Valley Personal Care Home. In a short time, it was obvious that it was meant to be. She was healthier than she had been in a long time and had the staff in stitches numerous times with her sassiness.

Doreen will be missed by her children Ray (Brenda), Ron, and Darlene (Greg); grandchildren Blair, Christine, Connor, Katie and great grandson Hayden.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband Walter; sisters Lila and Anne; brothers John, Joe, Francis, Harry, Roland, Bill, Cliff and Walter.

Funeral service was held on Monday, September 21st, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the St. Andrews United Church, Swan River, Manitoba with Rev. Dr. Jenny Sprong officiating.

Cremation had taken place at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Swan River, Manitoba.

Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Doreen’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

rest at a later date.
