Tanya Leask Obituary

April 10, 1980-February 22, 2021

Age 40 years

Tanya Melissa Leask was born in Swan River, Manitoba to mother, Selena Cook and her father, Lambert Gott.  Tanya left suddenly in The Pas, Manitoba and losing her has shattered her daughters deeply losing their mother.  Her parents, her siblings, all her friends and her extended family have lost a passionate and loving woman.

Tanya had many friends throughout her life as a compassionate and understanding woman, and she is known to have mentored and counselled many young people through their own personal journeys.  Her heart remained with Sidney Audy and she maintained this love for him.  Her posts to Sidney on social media attest to her continued love for him. Her closest confidante was her aunt Della Leask-Moore with whom she was able to share precious moments of love and heartfelt support.

Tanya’s physical beauty was a statement of stylish fashion with her signature red lipstick.  Her acknowledgement of traditional and cultural beliefs was a part of Tanya.  Her spirit name: Ana-Ka-Mi-Chi-Minat-Asini-Ya and her colors of light grey, royal purple, yellow and pink were a source of hope and life for Tanya.

Tanya grew up in Dawson Bay, Manitoba surrounded by her brothers and sisters and because she was the oldest, she mothered each of her siblings with her whole heart and each sibling will carry forward all their memories of their big sister, Tanya.  Tanya loved to spend time with her siblings playing many games with chances of exploration, with acknowledgement of inherent and family practice of fishing.

After finishing her GED at University College of the North, she continued on to graduate from culinary arts.  Her cooking talent was admired and enjoyed by many experiencing her new recipes and her food presentations. The ability to coerce palate exploration for many with added spices mixed with all her love was an amazing talent.

She was employed as a custodian at Sapotaweyak Cree Nation Health until she decided to leave to manage a chronic lung illness.

She leaves behind her children, Paradise Chartrand, Remona Leask and Wilma Chartrand-Leask, adopted daughter, Veruca Quill and her baby girl, Arys Leask.  Her siblings: Inez Dano (Reynold Dano), Tracey Leask (Henry Bourassa), Gerrilee Hanson (Zack), Percy Rachel Cook, Ian Leask (Glenda Flett), Derry Hellwege, Leohola Cook, Rena Henderson (Rick Henderson), Jana-Lynn Gott, Halana Gott (Duane Chartrand), Lena Genaille, and Robert Gott.  Her parents Selena Cook (Dennis) and her father, Lambert Gott (Kim), and her godparents, Rab and Tanya Subedar.  Her maternal choom, Harold Kematch, her maternal kookums Betsy Kematch, Elizabeth “Betsy” Kematch and Emily Kematch and her paternal aunt Flossie Contois (Albert Leask)

Pallbearers:  Danielle Kematch, Melva Quill, Eric Cook, Cordale Sanderson, Byron Kematch, Ross Stevens, Keith Mentuck, Ian, Ralph, Joey Leask, Hunter Gott, Henry Bourassa, Bo Miki, Trent McKay, Sterling Cook and Roger Kematch.  All Tanya’s closest friends are considered as honorary pallbearers.

Honor Guards will be her aunt and uncle, Nora and Fred Stevens with her kookums, Rita Gott and Stella Norman.

Tanya joins her grand daughter, Tabitha Natasha Munro, her great grandparents, Blennie and Albert Gott, Bella Ann and Simon Kematch, her maternal grandparents, Martha and Perly Leask, her paternal grandparents Katherine and Michael Gott, many aunts and uncles, cousins.  Her kookum and choom, Wilma and Dolphus Genaille. The ancestors who met her at the door is a comfort for the family.

In keeping with traditions, a wake and funeral service
