Michael Postnikoff Obituary

POSTNIKOFF, Michael Frederick

March 2, 1930 – June 28, 2022

Sadly and suddenly, Mike Postnikoff passed away at Thunderhill Court in Benito, Manitoba.  Mike is survived by his wife Katie of 69 years, numerous family and friends.  Daughters Pearl Dyck (Kelowna), Debbie Arcand (Kelowna), Gail Stenberg (Victoria), Leslie Rogalski (Nanaimo).  His grandchildren Shaun Dyck (Melisa), Thomas, Derian, Elias and Felix of Kamloops; Ian Stenberg (Ngan), Liam and Hope of Nanaimo; Waylon (Misty) and Logan of Kelowna, Christopher Rogalski of Edmonton and Jordan Rogalski of Nanaimo.  Mike had one nephew, Jeff Johnson, of Lake Louise, Alberta.  He was especially fond of his son-in-laws past and present, Ed Dyck, Sheldon Stenberg, Mike Arcand and Bill Rogalski, and they visited him as recently as a month ago in Benito.  Predeceased by his father and mother, Fred and Elsie Posnikoff, sisters Tina Johnson and Mary Kastrukoff, grandson Justin Dyck and granddaughter Trina Arcand.  Mike was born during the great depression and life was hard growing up but he managed to raise his family mainly by farming, sawmill work and various other endeavors.  Towards retirement Mike and Katie moved to Kelowna in 1993, for 19 years, and then on to Nanaimo for 10 years to be closer to family, but he made the drive twice every year to his beloved Benito as he felt more at home there.  He loved BC for its warmer weather and loved to hang out along the ocean.  Mike loved animals tame and wild, and was known to befriend and feed young coyotes, foxes and racoons on the farm, and when his children were young would bring home the odd wild bunny or injured crow or owl as pets.  People would probably remember Mike with Boots sitting in the passenger seat driving around Benito.  In later years he often had a cat on his lap.

Thanks to Lenore and Rick Kinaschuk and residents at Thunderhill Court who helped him feel at home, and especially Lenore who was at his side when he passed so he wasn’t alone and that brings us comfort.

The family would like to express sincerest gratitude towards Paul’s Funeral Home and Crematory for being accommodating during this difficult time.

Private family burial at Semonouka (aka Bearhead) Cemetery followed by a celebration of his life to be held at Benito Legion Hall on Saturday, July 16, at 2 o’clock.
