Bertram Ross Higgs

Of Bowsman, MB, passed away in Swan River Personal Care Home on August 17th, 2023, at the age of 78.

Ross was born in Swan River on May 29th, 1945, to John and Irene Higgs nee Sutherland.

He is deeply missed by his partner Rhea Denson of Bowsman, MB.

Ross resided, as a small child, in Birch River. His school years were spent in Flin Flon and Bowsman, MB. He worked at Johns Service as a mechanic and Tow Truck Operator. He was a volunteer fireman for 27 years and a Water Plant Operator for 25 years in the Town of Bowsman. He also was the landfill operator for several years and hauled grain for a farmer from combine to bin for several years.

His interest as a youngster was hockey. He played on Ross Lake at Flin Flon, then as an adult served as an assistant coach and stats keeper. He enjoyed watching the Jets and Bombers games on TV. He was a voracious reader. Ross was always good with children, a good listener and could be found reading to his younger children at recess.

Survived by siblings Betty Doak (Mel) of Quadra Island, B.C., Allan Higgs (Donna) of Winipeg, M.B., Shelly Higgs of Quadra Island, B.C., Kevin Higgs (Donna) of Winnipeg, M.B. Several nieces and nephews. Uncle Ken Sutherland of Bowsman, M.B. Many cousins and Rheas family.

Cousins below represent some of his aunts and uncles, Paternal; Carol Schaefer, Louise Sutherland, JoAnn Gauthier, Debbie Giesbrecht, Chris Higgs, John Higgs. Maternal; Glen Phillip, Lynn Sutherland, Alvie Sutherland, Ross Sutherland, Rick Sutherland, Brian Sutherland.

 Predeceased by Wife Donna Jean Higgs (Nee McKay), Brother-in-Law Larry Stevens, Parents, Grand-Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, God Parents, Gordon and Beth Jeffery.

The Funeral service will be held September 9th at the Bowsman Legion Hall. Pastor Andrew Weins will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Bowsman Cemetery. Active Urn bearers: Allan Higgs, Kevin Higgs.
