Amanda Joy Stehr

Amanda dedicated her life to one of strength, fervency, vitality, and acts of service... She enjoyed her youth spending much time with family and friends to numerous to mention; there, she developed deep connections and the ability to relate to people, many being branches of the family tree. In her time of being available to babysit, she grew a deep love for the little people which made sense because she absolutely adored kids. She built memories and invested back, often devoting time to help younger friends in growth in sports. Amanda enjoyed ringette, hockey, baseball and riding her minibike at her beloved Grandpa & Grandma Weir’s farm. She was heavily involved in 4H; showing cattle and horses; an accomplished Charolais Queen. She enjoyed spending her summers at the “Weir Inn,” a multi-generational cabin at Emma Lake. She loved fishing, and later hunting, gardening, decorating, and could see the potential in so many things that were often overlooked by others. Amanda grew up as part of a greater community. She highly spoke of connections made in the towns of Perdue, Delisle and Dundurn, and in Hamlets; the roots of Leney and Catherwood Saskatchewan, most notably. Amanda discovered herself in the ruins of the Hamlet of Catherwood, her “Forever Home.” She discovered her “Place of Peace” in the hammock she placed in her sanctuary that she built on her Swan River farm. Amanda had a crafty side as well, often personalizing decor with her own touches of personal expression. She enjoyed the Western Lifestyle and even wrote a couple of poems.

Amanda met her husband, Chris, in the Saskatoon area. She managed to capture his focus with the use of her beloved horse Nick, where she pretended the horse to be less broke than she actually was. Amanda was keen, clever and resourceful when she needed to be. Together they developed a very deep friendship that would after a couple years turn into a relationship. Their relationship advanced swiftly through their invested time prior; within their first year they bought a small farm, got engaged and began to build a herd of Quarter Horses. As they entered their second year together Amanda was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She underwent a very invasive surgery and later radiation. Given her deep strength of character and a sense to not make others worry about her, she put on her best smile while trying to disguise her fears. After recovering and adapting Amanda and Chris both continued to invest in their educations where Amanda obtained Journeypersons Status in The Partsperson Trade.

Her and Chris were married on June 12, 2004. In 2005 they undertook a farmstead set up and welcomed the birth of their first son, Tommy.  Amanda’s character and desire to be connected with people more directed to her talents soon found her back working at The Asquith Farm and Ranch store. Her talents were put to use well there, she aside from doing the books and some deliveries, ran the operation with minimal supervision. After a change of ownership and a business realignment, Amanda accepted a position in Saskatoon at Crane Supply. She took charge and restructured the workings of the entire warehouse and product flow. Amanda’s proficiency in organization redirected Crane from being the last place to go, to the first place to go!!!

Around 2010 Amanda found inspiration in the development, dedication and evident peacefulness displayed in marriage by her Brother Joel Hamm and Sister-in-Law Carla Hamm, which would continue from there forward. Carla and Amanda shared the most unique connection in so many ways and had previously met before Joel and Carla began their growth together.

In 2011 Amanda and Chris welcomed the birth of their second child and daughter, Gracie. Amanda continued to put her focus into making improvements in her marriage; she began investing herself in Ladies Bible Retreats and Studies and also adapted to a role of the homebody.

In 2013 Travis was born and Amanda continued to focus, invest and grow in Christ and her marriage, where she would eventually bring forth change in Chris and begin leading him back. They both found themselves regularly attending Asquith Baptist Church, where many strong friendships were formed and where Amanda and Chris would later be baptized together in Christ.

Amanda still had a restlessness and desire to relocate. Her excitement for a new life built in a more private location, continual concern was for her husbands well being and following what she believed in her heart fueled the fire for another adventure. In 2015 the family relocated to a small farm just out of Swan River. It was here that she built her personal sanctuary. She took on new challenges and elevated her culinary skills while she grew in spirit and flourished in faith. Together the family adjusted to the more simpler pleasures of life; a much richer marriage as well as a much deeper connection to and through Christ. Amanda was heavily devoted to The Solid Rock Church. She was a regular participant in weekly bible studies and a fervent volunteer where she would notably bring her renowned cinnamon buns. She was sure to make enough so that there were ample to be taken home by the congregation after service. She provided the same to her ladies bible studies. She also enjoyed buying some stranger lunch and watching their disbelief when they went to pay. She loved to admire from a distance at their shock or disbelief. Amanda would work herself tirelessly to see someone she loved or even someone she knew receive her love, hoping for nothing more than a smile in return. She deeply loved every member of her family and would love on anyone that would receive the love she had to give, with a special love for those weighed down by spiritual hurts.

Her kids most memorable times are sneaking down the garden and raiding the pea patch while leaving Chris lightly confused about a low yielding garden. We will all miss: her loving character and nature, her ability to bring distinguished joy and peace to those around her, her ability to connect with people that felt broken and help them see themselves as she seen them, her soft and loving words and the most gentle and warm hand that would find itself tickling your fears or anxieties away!!! Together Amanda and Chris faced many mountains, trials and tribulations, but they recently marked spending half of a lifetime together, 21 years of post diagnosis life and lot of love with an abundance of mercy and grace along the way. With her middle name being “Joy,” she truly delivered joy to all that would receive it.

Amanda is survived by: her children whom she adored, Thomas, Gracie and Travis Stehr and her beloved husband Chris Stehr; her Loving parents, Les and Betty Hamm; her beloved siblings, sister Tamara Weir Shields (Jason) and brother Joel Hamm (Carla) as well as the most loving Grandma, Joy Weir.

Amanda will be deeply missed by her extended family: Barney (Pirk) Stehr, Lynn Stehr (Grant MacLeod), Austin Devers, Ashley (Denny) Langevin, Katie-Jo Stehr and Carla Nutter, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and Uncles and Aunties, Faith Partners, friends and loved ones too numerous to mention by name.

Amanda was predeceased by: her father Thomas Weir; and uncle, Colin Weir; grandparents Doug and Mona Davidson, John Weir, and George & Hilda Hamm and Auntie Karen Fyson.

A celebration of her life was held April 22, 2023 in Swan River Manitoba and another will be held April 29, 2023 in Perdue Saskatchewan.
