In Remembrance of
Wilfred George Cook of Neeack, MB passed away on January 4th, 2020 at 4:10 am with his family by his side at the age of 74 years.
It is great sadness, we the family announce the sudden passing of our dad, brother, uncle, godfather, brother-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa and a good friend to everyone.
Wilfred, better known as “skudger”, was born on August 13th, 1945 in Neeack to the late Soloman and Mary Jane Cook. He started singing and playing the guitar at the age of 16, with his late brother Robert Cook, in numerous communities. He helped people out at wakes throughout his life, he also kept the traditions alive and he served a term as a councilor for 32 years for his people of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
During his life, Wilfred spent his time travelling, visiting friends and he loved to sing Cree hymn’s. He worked for the Health Authority, Housing Committee and many Aboriginal organizations and also worked with Councilors, Chief and Band members. He helped out the community when they needed help and he loved doing the job as a Honour Guard, he also had many good friends, which we cannot mention them all, He was a fisherman, trapper, hunter, logger, square dancer and he enjoyed the outdoors. Wilfred would always go check on his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, which are too numerous to mention. Wilfred showed his nephews a good work ethic by the example he lead.
Wilfred is survived by: his step-daughters Marya, Connie, Dora and Jennifer; step-son Keith; his only brother Roderick Cook Sr.; aunt Alice Bourassa; nephews and nieces Mike Chartrand (Caroline), Joseph Chartrand (Ethel), Arthur Chartrand, Rachael (Gunner), Noel Cook, Clayton Cook, Sonny Cook, Rose Emma Stevens (Gary), Amanda Cook, Susie Cook, Theodore George (Karen), Mallory (Ursula), Kimberly George, Madeline Campbell (Gary), Cameron George (Belinda), Hector George (Darlene), Irwin (Denise), Ricky (Charmaine), Bernard Cook, Roderick Cook Jr. and Melissa Chartrand (Mike); special friend Delilah Audy; brother-in-law Daniel (Lorette); grandchildren Charlie Chartrand (Shawna), Christina Queskekapow (Derrick), Jolene, Jessie, Audrey, Cassandra (Edward), Mitchell, Joseph Jr. (Danielle), Marietta Chartrand,, Noelle, Alicia Cook, Ramona (Chris), Blair, Connie (James), Helen Stevens, Kerry, Columbus Thomas, Jerome, Jordan Captain, Venus, Tylor Cook, Terrance, Trevor, Matthew, Nadine, Sundene, Amelia George and Conrad Thomas; godchildren Trevor Cook and C.J.
