Scott Kerr

It is with sadness but also gratitude for his life that the family announces the passing of Scott Kerr, of Benito, Manitoba on Thursday August 8th, 2019 at the age of 67 years old. Scott William Kerr was born to Janet and Bill Kerr on January 30th, 1952 in Arcola, Saskatchewan. He received his education in the hometown he was born in.

Scott was a hard worker, beginning his time in the work force at Co-op. He then moved to Esterhazy, Saskatchewan in the 70’s and worked in the mine. He was then a truck driver until the early 80’s and after that he moved to Fort St. John to work as a plumber and pipe fitter into the mid 80’s. Following that he moved to Swan River and worked in the bush or as a farmhand. He drove school bus for the longest time in the Swan River Valley. He also worked on weekends for the Swan River RM as a landfill attendant. When he was done he went on to work at Nutrien Ag Solutions for a while until he couldn’t anymore.

Scott had two heart attacks in the 2000’s and that was where his driving bus ended. He took up bartending for Dale and Helen Offenburger for years. He bartended for Erin Millier and cooked breakfast in the mornings at M & M’s in Benito. When the restaurant changed hands he continued to go in and serve breakfast and coffee for Lynn and Brian Husenetter.

In 2013 Scott welcomed four new grandchildren into his life.

In 2015 Scott decided to quit smoking so he and a friend went and got “the zap down” and never smoked again. He was so proud of himself. After quitting smoking he started to run into some health issues thus beginning his medical journey. He chose to have his medical buddy, Kathy Naclia, with him until the end.

Scott loved to socialize and have his drinks with friends. It came to be that he couldn’t drink anymore when he found out that he had become a diabetic. He tried different drinks to control his sugar but nothing worked so he made the choice to shut down the social drinking. Scott was a tough man and a survivor,            overcoming four different cancers in the last three years.

Scott was very proud of his sons Mark and Dean for having their own business and he was always willing to help them if it was for fetching supplies or just to offer advice. He loved people and cherished his family and friends. To have children around brought him so much joy. He was an avid Demo Derby fan, a devoted coffee shop companion and he could always be counted on when someone need help. He so enjoyed his lunch dates with his granddaughter Shannon. Scott did find love twice in his life being married but also had to learn to let go of it.

Scott was predeceased by his parents Janet and Bill Kerr and by his brother Bruce.

Left to cherish his memory are: his sons Mark (Tracy) and Dean (Kathy) Kerr; brothers AJ and Neil Kerr and sister Audrey; grandchildren Tristin, Madyson, Matthew, Jackson, Sasha, Shannon, Sage and Daniel; step-kids Tammy, Rob and the late Lorne Reiben as well as a foster daughter, Roberta Brass and his cat Sammy.

A Graveside memorial service was held on Saturday, August 17th, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Durban Cemetery with Darlyn Beaudry officiating. Following the memorial service a time of fellowship and reflection was held at the Durban Community Hall. Honourary pallbearers were all of Scott’s grandchildren.
