Samantha Jennifer Cook

Samantha Jennifer Cook “Beep” of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation passed away on September 10th, 2017 at the age of 35 years.

Samantha was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on August 26th, 1982 to Gilbert and Lorraine Susan Barker. Samantha received her education at the Mountain View School and NDKMS where she received her GED.

During her life Samantha worked as an administrative assistant, a cake decorator at the Swan Valley Co-op, Early Childhood Educator, a medical Driver for Wuskwi Sipihk and more recent with Maple Leaf Construction.

Samantha’s hobbies included reading books, fishing, weekend traveling, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Samantha leaves behind her two daughters, Brielle Sanderson-Cook and Claire Brisine Rowe; step-father Gilbert Barker; father Wilfred Quill; sisters Amanda (Eric) Genaille and Lisa Quill; step-sister Joy Barker; brother Wayne Cook; nieces and nephews Sharon (Robert), Jasmine, Noraha,  Hayden Cook and Jared Sutherland, Julia, Trevor (Caitlyn), Terrance (Patricia); great-grand nieces and nephews Ameilla, Summer, Victoria, Ashley Jensen, Arya, Sydney Rose, Kennedy, Renee and great grand nephew Allan Ryu and by her god daughter Serenity Chartrand/McKay.

She was predeceased by her mother Lorraine Susan Barker; sister Sharon Cook; brother Gilbert Barker Jr.; grandmothers Brisine Cook and Gertie Barker; grandfather Walter Cook, Hector Genaille and Gus Genaille; niece Chasity Quill and cousin Beverly Chartrand.

Wake service was held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 beginning at 2:00 PM, from the Sapotaweyak Community Hall, Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, Manitoba. Wake will continue on September 21st, 2017 beginning at 3:00 PM from the Barrows Community Hall, Barrows, Manitoba.

Funeral service was held Friday, September 22nd, 2017 at 1:00 PM from

Barrows Community Hall, Barrows, Manitoba, with Father Roy George officiating.

Active pallbearers were Trevor Quill, Terrance Quill, Dakota Tripp, Eric Genaille, Darren Barker, James Cook, Wayne Cook, Vernon Cook, David Jr. Barker, Matthew Barker, Ryan Rosteski, Robert Spence, Gillis Cook and Marten MacKenzie.

Honorary pallbearers were Wanda Richard, Chelsea Squirrel and Johnny Schenk

As well as all of Samantha’s friends and family are to consider themselves as honorary pallbearers.

Honor guards were Loretta Gott, Rita Gott and Wilfred Cook.
