Kathleen (Kay) "Fancy" Lawson
May 26, 1914 ~ October 11, 2017 (age 103) 103 Years OldKathleen (Kay) Lawson (a.k.a “Fancy”), née Fenuik, passed away peacefully in Swan River, Manitoba on October 11th, 2017, at the age of 103.
Kay was born May 26th, 1914 to Mike and Sarah Fenuik, at Sec. 12 Tp 29, Rge 8, W 2, near Insinger, Saskatchewan. She lived in many CNR stations and towns, Churchill, Lynn Lake, Brandon, Roblin and Swan River, Manitoba.
Kay is survived by her brother George and sisters Jennie, MaryAnn and Lee; son Arvid Crabb (Pauline) of Roblin, MB; their children Aaron, William, Katherine, and Tim (Margaret); daughter Margaret Dennis (Donald) of Swan River, MB; their children Garry (Marilyn), Connie (Gord) and Deborah. She adored her grand-children, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased in death by her parents Mike and Sarah Fenuik; brothers William, Matthew, and Johnny (in WWll); sister Jean; brother Edward (in infancy); her late husband Harry Lawson; son Morley Crabb and great-granddaughter Shaylyn Dawn Crabb.
Kay ran Kay’s Coffee Bar in Lintlaw, SK and worked in many restaurants; the hospital in Lynn Lake and Swan River; Department Stores and some office cleaning. In Churchill, she worked at the CNR Beanery and at DRNL. She was awarded a life-membership in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion in 2008 and recently received a 70-year service pin. She was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star in Churchill, MB in 1962 and was Worthy Matron there in 1966 and 1968. She was known as “Fancy” for her matching clothes and accessories, especially in purple and mauve! When she lived in Churchill, MB she received an award for decorating the outside of her house all fancy. She frequently played bingo and enjoyed the company of her many friends. She continued to work and she drove her own vehicle into her mid-90s before she moved into the Lodge in Swan River, MB. Kay was part of several 5 generation family photos with her great-great-grandchildren.
