George Adams Obituary

George Adams was born to Frank and Mary (Stark) Adams, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his older brother Frank and two sisters, Margaret and Patricia. He attended Henderson and Mackenzie Schools. During the Second world war he delivered the Tribune to the Barracks at the Flight Training School at the Dauphin Airport, traveling by bus to and from town.

During his youth he enjoyed cubs and scouts and became a cub leader. He was proud to receive a long service Award. As soon as he was old enough, he joined the Elks Lodge with who he enjoyed running The Regatta at Ochre Beach, weekly bingo’s, the bowling alley, and traveling on inter-lodge visits. He enjoyed the ritual of meetings and conducted many funerals for brother Elks. George served as District Deputy of the Manitoba BPOElks District #6. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Winnipegosis Lodge #108.

George was a third-generation employee of the CNR. His grandfather, Adam Stark came to Dauphin at the same time as the rail road. His mother Mary worked in the CN station. His father Frank came from England in 1911 and worked with CN bridge and building crew. George worked with Express and then as Claim Inspector, and finally the bunkhouse.

His many years in Dauphin combined with his excellent memory and an interest in local history made him a great story teller. He was a source of information on who lived where, who owned what business and what went on in the community. He was a support of the Dauphin Kings throughout his life. George also volunteered for several years on the Dauphin Housing Authority.

In 1962 George married Lorraine Lee at Hawarden Saskatchewan. He became the proud father of two sons, Garry George born in 1966 and David Ashley born in 1971. Camping, fishing and traveling were their favorite things to do together. In 1972 they built a cottage at Crescent Cove and thoroughly enjoyed the beach life, with beautiful sunrises, sunsets, bonfires, water skiing, fishing and having relative and friends join in.

Sadness came when son Garry George passed away in 2012. He was the father of grandchildren Brady, Andrew and Leah. They became a very important part of George’s life. They survived him, along with his wife Lorraine; son David (Eva) and “adopted” daughter-in-law Anne (Annie) Hughes. Also surviving are brothers-in-laws, Lawrence Lee (Linda), Merlin Lee (Gayle), Walter Kondratiuk and sisters-in-law Marcel Lee and Marion Adams. There are many surviving nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

He was predeceased by parents-in-law Lumen and Myrtle lee of Outlook, SK; sisters-in-law Margaret Kondratiuk and Ireke Lee; and brother-in-law Earl Talbot and Richard Crawford.

There will be no funeral. Interment will take place in the Stark/Adams family plot in Riverside Cemetery in the spring. If anyone wishes to make a donation in honor to George’s life the family suggest: The Activity Fund of the Grandview PCH, Box 130, Grandview, MB R0L 0Y0, where George passed away after receiving wonderful care there for the past year. Or to the Dauphin Community Foundation, 100 Main Street South, Dauphin, MB R7N 1K3
