Frank Lucan Obituary

Frank Lucan of Swan River passed away on November 28th, 2019 at the age of 92 years and 5 months.

Frank was born in Marikova, Czechoslovakia on June 5th, 1927 to John and Mary Lucan. He received 4 years of education in Czechoslovakia and when he came to Canada in April of 1937, he went to grade 6 in Floradale S.D.

On June 5th, 1952 Frank married Roseanne Lucan nee (Harkin) of Swan River in the St. Columba Church in Swan River.

During his life he lived in Swan River and worked for Anglo and Royalyte Oil Companies; for Manitoba Telephone System; for Gulf PetroCan and Shell Oil Companies as a truck driver delivering fuel.

Dad loved farming. His first farming experience was with horses, which he loved all his life, as well as his dogs. His love of farming started when he brought a ½ section of solid bush…. not even a road, just a trail to it. He cleared the land by himself. He loved the fields of flax he grew. He grew many crops over the years.

His children in his mind were incomparable. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him. His lifelong hobby of building furniture gave him hours of pleasure in the building of and the giving of. His favorite pieces were roll top desks. His masterpiece was a twelve-foot china cabinet with rolling doors and glass shelves.

Dad loved to sing all the time. He could be heard signing at the lodge and the residents loved to hear him sing. He would burst into song anywhere he felt needed a little joy and happiness. In the washroom, in the kitchen doing dishes, in the restaurant and down the hall at the lodge.

We are going to miss dad, his singing and his love. His first and final love. His Roseanna.

Left to mourn Frank’s passing: is his wife Roseanna of 67 years, 5 months; children Colin (wife Karen Bresky), Andrea Mohr (husband Gary), Sharon Laframboise (husband Mare), Stephanie Jersak and Marianna Sonnenberg (husband Melvin); 14 grandchildren Amanda, Jonathan, Caillynd (Tyler Sutherland), Shannon, Tanelle, Sabrina (Matt Atkinson), McKenzie, Mallory, McCall (Shawn Landry), Danielle (Riley McIntyre), Michaila, Jason, Jeffrey and Jennifer (Ryan Frost) and by 8 great-grandchildren Kaleb, Maicyn Sutherland, Walker, Madden, Beckham, Kessler Atkinson, John and Tom Frost.

Frank was predeceased by his baby daughter Frances; parents Mary and John; sister Sidonia, brother Stanley; in-laws Michael and Mary Harkin; sister-in-law Eileen Vancoughnett; brother-in-laws Patrick Harkin and Eugene Vancoughnett and by his nieces Millicent and Theresa.
