Winston Metcalfe Obituary

Winston Alfred Thomas Metcalfe of Bowsman, Manitoba passed away in the Swan River Personal Care Home on November 1st, 2020. He was 78 years old. Winston was born in Bowsman, on April 14th 1942 to Orville and Nellie Metcalfe. He grew up on the farm and received his education at Bowsman School.

During his life, Winston farmed grain, hogs, and cattle on his farm southwest of Bowsman. On his retirement, he moved in with his Son Richard, near Cowan, where he resided until 2019 when he moved into personal care.

For many years Winston devoted himself to being a great farmer, but he also made time for fun. He was an accomplished curler, former president of the Bowsman curling club, and helped build the Bowsman curling rink. He enjoyed raising and riding horses. He played baseball in his youth which eventually changed to watching it later in his life. Winston also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going camping.

Winston was a kind-hearted open-minded man. If someone was in trouble they always came to Winston. He would always open his door. He had a lifelong habit of curiosity. He not only knew what worked, but he usually knew how it worked and was eager to let you know too. His favorite thing was walking around his property, especially near the Woody River, and looking after animals. Winston loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, he was a kind and loving grandfather.

Winston is survived by his son Richard Metcalfe, daughter Loril Scales (Rob), daughter Marla Metcalfe (Lance Beach), son Arron Metcalfe (Carrie Tanasichuk), and daughter Brooke Metcalfe (Michael Barker); twelve grandchildren: Riley and Tynan Metcalfe; Robynn Kooistra, Mattlyn Scales, and Hollin Pratt; Logan and Hudson Beach; Elizabeth and Jack Metcalfe; and Briella, Aubrie, and Michael Barker; as well as five great-grandchildren Dali Metcalfe, and Silas, Amos, Phineus, and Ivor Kooistra.

Cremation has taken place and Winston will be laid to rest during a private family service.
