Sharon Lynn McKinnon passed away peacefully May 9, 2026 with family by her side.
Sharon was the first born of parents Alice and Jack Thompson. She would later become the big sister to five brothers and five sisters.
Sharon was a gifted student and graduated high school at the age of 16. Her dream was to become a registered nurse, but she couldn’t do this until she was 18. So, Sharon took on two years of teaching on permit at Camper, Manitoba, in a one-room school with grades one to eight. Then from 1958-1961 she attended St. Boniface Hospital nursing and accomplished her RN.
Sharon nursed in many capacities and locations over the years and retired at the age of 72 at the St Boniface hospital and had gone full circle. She was well known for her dedication and caring as an amazing nurse.
Sharon and Perry married in August of 1961, and after a short stay in Winnipeg, they made their home in Summerside PEI. Soon their family began to grow with the addition of Jeffrey Scott in November 1962. Kelly Lynn was born in Swan RIver in February 1965 while the family was moving to Richmond, B.C. THere Perry joined Canadian Pacific Airlines, and sharon worked full time while raising Jeff and Kelly. Sharon was a very devoted mother and always tried to make sure they had many experiences and time spent with their large extended family.
She loved to travel and did definitely install this passion in her children. She loved music and dancing, and was in her glory at family gatherings. Family was very important to her, and she cherished time spent with her children and adored her grandchildren Tara and Andrew. Watching sports especially baseball and the Blue Jays, gardening and collecting antiques and knick-knacks were her favorite pastimes.
Sharon was predeceased by brother Jack, Sister-in-law Phyllis, Sister-in-law Paulina, Brothers-in-law Larry Campbell, and Ray Rooks, nephew Kristen Rooks, and Mom and Dad, Alice and Jack Thompson,
She is survived by son Jeffrey (Irene), daughter Kelly, Granddaughter Tara (Charles) and Grandson Andrew (Myriama), Brothers Bill, Brent, Brian (Zoe), Keith (Roxanne), Sister-in-law Carrol, Sisters Mona Campbell, Vivian Rooks , Rhonda (Tim) Peterson, Colleen (Max) Walker and Wendy (Richard) Gingras and many nieces and nephews.
