Pearl Woods Obituary

Pearl was born the sixth of eight children in Mankota, Saskatchewan on March 1, 1923, to Bert and Jane Rittwage. She married Harold John Woods, also from Mankota, on July 5, 1941. They farmed in the Mankota area until moving to Birch River in 1949, where they purchased land under The Veteran’s Land Act. She worked alongside John clearing the land of roots and rocks and tending livestock, all while caring for her growing family.

Pearl enjoyed gardening which was an essential part of life in those times. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Pearl was a great cook and famous for her chocolate cakes. She loved horseback riding and, even in later years, would ride to visit the neighbors.

Pearl & John retired to Swan River in 1989 where she resided until becoming a resident of Hartney Health Centre in May 2019. She passed peacefully, with family by her side, on September 20, 2021.

She is survived by her children Garfield, Edith Taylor, Grant (Margaret), Dixie (Tim) Lasuik, Beverly (Bernie) Smashnuk, and Catherine (Rob) Pettinger, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 10 great, great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband John, son-in-law Cecil Taylor, daughter- in-law Marilyn, grandson Garnet Spencer, son-in-law Glen Spencer, daughter Fay Spencer, grandson Derek Taylor, son Bruce and her 7 siblings.

A private family graveside committal was held at Crandell Cemetery, Birch River Manitoba with Reverend Jon Pettinger officiating.
