It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Marilynn Shimkus on December 21, 2021. She was born in Chatham, Ontario on November 30, 1948.
Marilynn is survived by her husband Ernie Shimkus; her daughter Michelle Walker; sisters Karen (Larry) Clarke and Patricia McMullen (Greg Lauwereys); and brother Brian Willis. She was predeceased by her parents Ron and Marg Willis.
Marilynn was known for her straight forwardness, strength, and independence. She would never shy away from challenge. She did her best to advocate for others in need. She was kind, thoughtful, generous, encouraging, and happy. She loved to spread joy through telling stories and making people laugh. She definitely had, an extraordinary sense of humor. A big milestone in her life was that she had recently celebrated 46 years of sobriety. Throughout her life she lived in many different places trying to find that place where she belonged. She lived in places like Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and finally settling in Manitoba.
While in Manitoba she met and married the love of her life. They spent 20 years together side by side together on the farm. Marilynn loved living on the farm and lived her best life there. She wouldn’t have changed a thing. She got so much enjoyment from her cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, and the cows. She spent time gardening, bee keeping, sewing, canning, which brought so much enjoyment.
She was also an avid bird watcher, nature lover and wildlife enthusiast. She enjoyed time spent around the kitchen table with family and friends sharing a meal and stories together, having a few laughs.
Marilynn was a strong woman of enduring faith. She always believes that God had a plan for her which brought her great comfort.
It gives her family comfort in knowing that she is at peace in the loving arms of her Saviour.
It would be a blessing to her family if you would consider making a donation in her memory to the Swan Valley Animal Protection League, Box 2735, Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0.
In keeping with Marilynn’s wishes, cremation
will take place and a service will be held at a later date
with burial to take place in Crandell Cemetery,
Birch River, Manitoba.
