Obituary

It is with sadness and much gratitude for his beautiful and purposeful life that the family announces the passing of Joe Legebokoff on August 28th, 2023 at the age of 82 years. Joe was born in Whitebeech, Saskatchewan on September 2nd, 1940 to the late John & Frances Legebokoff.

He grew up in the Benito area and received his education there. Throughout Joe’s life he tried his hand at a variety of things for employment like farming, logging and carpentry. At the age of 16 he got a job with CN working on gang and passenger trains going from Winnipeg to Churchill. Around the age of 23 he moved into mining in the Yukon and then the Thompson Refinery. Eventually he came back home to the valley to work along side his father in carpentry. He found his passion in carpentry and came to start his own company covering jobs from Manitoba all the way to Vancouver Island.

Joe married Valerie Hodgins in 1974 and they brought their two sons into the world, Joseph in 1977 and James in 1979.

Joe lived a life full of learning, travel and working with his hands. He loved to fish and you could always expect a good visit with him. He lived and loved and laughed; all of the things one could hope for in a purposeful life. We are deeply grateful for all of the good years we had with him and for every deed we remember him by. Joe was a wonderful son, caring for his mother until her final days and an even better father and grandfather. He was present for every important event and also the little things. He knew that the value of life was living well and leaving the world a better place than how you found it. The values Joe lived by and passed onto his family are a gift like no other.

Joe is survived by: his two sons, Joseph (Jayme) and James (Tatiana); grandchildren, Morgen (Marshal), Trinidy (Matthew), Corbin (Megan), Kitana, Raiden and Augustina; 3 great-grandchildren, Scarlet, Mileena and Layla; sisters Kim (Bruce) and Shelby; brothers, John, Lloyd, Harry and Raymond.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John & Frances and a sister, Molly.
