Betty Shinn Obituary

Betty Mae Shinn passed away Aug. 12, 2022, in Dauphin, Manitoba after a brief stay in hospital.

Betty was born on May 7, 1931, in Durban, Manitoba where she spent the first years of her life. Later, she resided in Bowsman Manitoba, moving a few times but always coming back. Betty attended school in both Durban and Bowsman. She was an exceptional student and always top of her class in both schools. Betty later attended Brandon College after which she taught school at Novra and Kelwood in Manitoba.

Betty worked for several banks. She was well known as the “tax lady” to everyone but especially to the local farmers. Betty was also the clerk for the Village of Bowsman, from where she ended her working career. Betty was always up to something; she often volunteered to drive people to and from appointments in larger centers which was appreciated by so many. Betty loved to speed, frightening some passengers quite often. Betty’s greatest joys were her children; she always had something proud to say about them.

Betty was very well known all around the valley, everywhere you went with her she always had to stop and talk to everyone she knew; which sometimes, was everyone. Betty will be remembered by many from young to old.

Betty leaves to mourn her dog Rio; her brother Ron Ostrum (Marj); three children: David Ostrum, Gregory Tadgell (Sandy) and Arthur Tadgell (Judy); six grandchildren: Michael Rusk (Carla), Damien Tadgell, Jessie Tadgell, Jake Tadgell, Aryn Tadgell (Noah) and Alec Tadgell; and six great grandchildren: Aurora Rusk, Tristen Rusk, Ryan Howard, Kailey Tadgell, Kellie Tadgell, and Dominic McIntyre.

Betty was predeceased by her mother: Edna Walstrom; father: Elgin Ostrum; husband: Alex Shinn; and granddaughter: Alexis Ostrum.
