William "Lloyd" Shaw Obituary

WILLIAM LLOYD SHAW

William "Lloyd" Shaw of Swan River Manitoba passed away at the Swan Valley Health Centre on June 4, 2018 at the age of 82 years.

Lloyd was born in Swan River on March 15, 1936 to William (Bill) Shaw and Mabel Clare Andrews. Lloyd was the youngest of the family.  Lloyd received his early education (grades 1-9) at the Shaw School (where he used to win the spelling bees) then went on to finish his education at the Duncan School in Swan River.
During his younger years, Lloyd played rugby and ran track at school.

On February 1, 1955, Lloyd married Lois Irene Roberts of Swan River.  Together they raised four children; Greg, Elaine. Allan and Kathy.  During this time, Lloyd purchased the Square Plain schoolyard and house where they raised chickens and sold eggs.

In the fall of 1962, they moved to “John Shaw's” farm where Lloyd farmed 3–1/4 sections in Lavender District.  However, travelling 18 miles was time consuming so that property was sold and he acquired the “Dubray Farm” south of Swan River.  Lloyd did mixed farming throughout his life.  Sadly, on June 28, 2015 he lost the love of his life, his wife Lois.

Lloyd’s favorite pass time, which formed a large part of his life, was playing pool (snooker). He loved to play Rummy and Crokinole with his grandchildren. Another of his favorite pastimes was cutting wood at his makeshift sawmill with brother-in-law Garvin.

When he took a break he could be found having coffee with Frank Gordon, Bill Harris and his many other friends and acquaintances at the old Bus Depot, the Nelson or various other coffee shops around Swan River.

Lloyd is survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: son Greg (daughters Denyse and Nicole (Mike) and granddaughter Elayna); daughter Elaine (Mike) (daughters Deanna (Adam) and their children Matthew, Michael and Addison), Michelle (Jon) (their daughters Abbi and Emma), Deborah (her children Connor and Kayla); son Allan (his daughter Darryl and grandson Mason); Daughter Kathy (Ken) (their sons Brendon and Devin).

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Bill (“Uncle Bill” too many) and Mabel Shaw, siblings Winnifred, Archie, Muriel, Kenny, and Marjorie.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Swan Valley Health Centre for their compassion, professionalism and for the support provided to Lloyd’s family consistently while caring for Lloyd.
