Olive Sweetser Obituary

In loving memory of Olive Edith Sweetser.

Olive was born July 7, 1919, to Edith and Edward Krumm in Swan River.  She attended Lancaster School and Little Woody School.

For a short period following school, Mom worked doing housekeeping in Saskatchewan.  She met her husband, Leonard Sweetser, when her mother was working as a cook for his thrashing crew.   Leonard and Olive were married on December 9, 1938, in Swan River.  They settled in the Little Woody District where they farmed and raised their 4 children, Loretta, Boyd, Allan, and Leona, residing there until they moved into town.  Then, since Dad couldn’t seem to stop farming, they moved back out to the Little Woody District, where they stayed until retiring and moving back into town.

Mom enjoyed being a homemaker and having company.  There was never a shortage of delicious choices on her table.  She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, and house plants which all flourished under her magic touch.  She had a big garden and we did a lot of canning and preserving.  Mom enjoyed knitting, making gifts of warm sweaters, mittens, and slippers, crocheting a variety of interesting creations from doilies to chair leg covers, and quilt making - everyone loved Mom’s handmade quilts.  One of Mom’s greatest pleasures were moments spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren; whether it was a simple sleepover, treats in the kitchen, or watching them play with the tiny furniture.  And always a full candy bowl!

Mom’s faith was an important element in her life.  She was one of the founding members of Little Woody Baptist Church.

Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling; with numerous trips to British Columbia, the States, and England, which was where Leonard was born.  They also travelled down East to Nova Scotia.

After Leonard died on March 19, 1999, Mom continued to live in the house in Swan River until she was 92, enjoying visits from grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbors, relatives, and friends.  Mom’s homecare workers became her extended family, she thoroughly enjoyed her visits with them.  She moved into the Swan River Personal Care Home in the fall of 2011.  She passed away April 24, 2018, at the Swan River Personal Care Home at the age of 98 years.

To cherish her memory, she leaves daughter, Loretta Brown, Winnipeg; son, Boyd Sweetser, Swan River; son, Allan Sweetser, Calgary; and daughter, Leona Sweetser (Tim Rausch), Swan River; sister-in-law, Madeline Krumm; grandchildren Karen (Blaine) Healey, Linda (Frank) Cole, Orral Brown, Earl Brown, Vicky (Harald) Schulz, Sandra (Reg) Speers, Dean Sweetser, Ryan Sweetser; and great-grandchildren Logan (Viola) Healey, Dana Healey, Jessica (Joshua) McGraw, Zachary Healey, Ashley Cole, Tyler Cole, Vanessa Schulz, Natalie Schulz, Jordan Schulz, Morgan Speers, Nolan Anderson-Brown, Chantry Anderson-Brown, Carly (Russell) Luce, Adam Brown, Jacob Brown; and great-great-grandchildren Lorelai Luce, Samuel McGraw, and Erik Healey.
