Florence McCullough Obituary

Florence Ivy McCullough was born in Maloneck, Saskatchewan on August 27th, 1924. She was the only child of Albert and Emma Whymark.

When she was six months old her family left Maloneck and moved to just north of Durban, Manitoba. They moved to several different farms in the Swan River Valley area. Her father passed away in 1940, leaving her and her mother to move to Kenville, Manitoba. Her mother worked for many people in their homes doing odd jobs.

Ivy received most of her education in the Ruby District and some at Mountain Crest School. In the Ruby District she met the Fullerton girls and they all became like sisters. In fact, she called them her sister’s right up until the time of her passing.

In July 1946 she married James Leslie McCullough of Pretty Valley District. They were blessed with two sons; Alvin and wife Pat, Byron and wife Lynda. Her sons blessed her with two grandsons, Cory and Lavern and two granddaughters Rhonda and Terry.

Ivy belonged to a few organizations like the W.I. and others. She loved to sew and sewed clothes for her boys and herself right up until she couldn’t see good enough.

Her husband Leslie passed away in 1961. When this happened, her boys were quite young, and she worked along with them on the farm until they were old enough to do the work themselves. On February 22nd, 1968 Ivy’s mother Emma passed away. In 1980 she moved to an apartment in Swan River and continued to work at the Co-op store for nearly twenty years. In 1983 she retired and moved to Westside Lodge where she resided until she could not live alone anymore because of Alzheimer’s disease. She entered the Personal Care Home where she was until her passing.

She was predeceased by her husband Leslie, a sister and brother in law Wilda and Milton Webster, and her oldest son Alvin who passed away in 2003.

Ivy leaves to mourn her family Byron and Lynda, Pat and Bill; grandchildren Terry (Jerry), Cory (Jackie), Lavern (Roxanne) and Rhonda; eight grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a step sister Irma Derry as well as step nieces and nephews.
