Margaret Martha Potten of Swan River, Manitoba passed away at the Swan Valley Personal Care Home on Friday, March 13th, 2015 at the age of 91 years. She was born in Swan River on November 3rd, 1923 to the late Alfred and Evelyn Campbell.

She married the love of her life, Albert William Potten on July 8th 1943 in Swan River. Together they built their life and started a family having a daughter Dale and son Donald.

During Margaret’s life she wore many hats and enjoyed various hobbies. She was a teacher at Floradale School (1942-43) and worked as a butcher’s assistant at Tom Seto’s butcher shop. She also worked out as a housekeeper and painter in private homes where she gained lifelong friends. Together with Bert they bought land and farmed 5 miles west of Swan River. Her two most important jobs were being a devoted mother and wife. She has created many keepsake and prize winning works with her skills knitting, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening, curling, bowling and a good game of horse shoes as well as competing in many other activities especially the MSOS games. Margaret was a dedicated volunteer in a variety of organizations including the Women’s Institute, 4-H, The Ag Society, The Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross and some others.

Margaret is survived by: her Daughter Dale (Thomas) Atchitawens, her Son Donald (Beverley) Potten; Brothers Robert (Isabel) and Bill (Mary); Sisters Betty Edwards and Bernice (Leonard) Klekta; Grandchildren James (Deidre) Gourlay, Jeanette (Craig) Corrigan and Lisa (Barry) Chan; Great-Grandchildren Brandon and Adison Gourlay, Krystal and Nicole Corrigan and Joey Chan and numerous extended family members.

She was predeceased by: her husband Bert; Grandaughter Catherine; Brother Harry; Sister Maida; Brothers-in-laws Colin Edwards, Stan Potten, Eddie Potten, Garvin Lick and Jack McHaffie; Sister-in-law Alma Campbell, June Potten, Marg Lick and Evelyn McHaffie.
