Gordon Owen Glasscock
March 14, 1928 ~ May 30, 2015 (age 87) 87 Years OldGordon Owen Glasscock of Swan River, Manitoba peacefully passed away in the Swan Valley Lodge at the age of 87 years and 2 months.
Gordon was born to Charles and Sarah Glasscock in Bowsman, Manitoba on March 14th, 1928. He attended Sinclair River School.
He was employed at various jobs such as in the bush during winters (at one time running CAT for Johnny Johnston) and took over the family farm from his parents. He farmed most of his life and it became his passion with harvest being his favourite time of year.
He married Irene Elizabeth (nee Lynch) (Cocks) Glasscock in Dauphin, Manitoba on November 29th, 1974. They resided in the RM of Minitonas, Manitoba until moving to Swan River, Manitoba in 2013. Gordon was in residence at the lodge from fall 2014 until the time of his passing.
Gordon’s hobbies were bowling, horticulture (flowers), playing horseshoes, reading, quadding, fishing and curling. Gordon never minded getting up extra early if there was a bonspiel on somewhere.
Gordon is survived by: Irene, his wife of 40 years; his step children Bill Cocks (Sharon) of Minitonas, MB, Bob Cocks (Toni) of Red Deer, AB; son-in-law Terry Thomas Lockport, MB; and his sister Joan Maycher (Cliff) of Stoney Plains, AB.
Gordon had seven step-grandchildren; Tracy Cocks (Dane Loder) of Winnipeg, MB, Clinton Cocks (Nancy) of Minitonas, MB, Jackie (nee Cocks) Lumax (Brian) of Swan River, MB, Stephanie Cocks (Jay Coulthart) of Airdrie, AB, Matthew and Clayton Cocks of Red Deer, AB and Shaun Thomas (Susie) of Winnipeg, MB.
He also had 6 great-step-grendchildren; Kylie Cock-Loder, Addison, Sadie and Harper Cocks, Zachary Cocks and Dylan Lumax.
Gordon had numerous nephews and nieces; Mervin Maycher (Karen), David Maycher (Lori), Joyce Maycher, Sharon (Maycher) McDonald; as well as great-nieces, Christine Maycher, Katherine (Maycher) Wills (Keegan), and Melissa Maycher, Lindsay (Maycher) Welch (Colin), Emily McDonald and his great-nephwe David McDonald from Alberta and B.C.
Gordon was predeceased by: his parents Charles and Sarah Glasscock and his step daughter Pat (Cocks) Thomas (Terry).
A funeral service was held on Monday, June 15th, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the Knox United Church, Minitonas, Manitoba with Reverend Kathy Highmoor officiating. Linda Gilchrist served the family for musical services. Following the funeral service Gordon was laid to rest in the Minitonas, Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon was held at the Minitonas Hall with the Knox United Church ladies in charge of the meal.
